I clicked on the TV and started watching the RNC coverage. The Twins spoke! It was exciting to hear their voices for the first time. They introduced their father who introduced their mother. Laura Bush is giving a hefty speech as I write this.
"Jenna and I aren't very political, but we love our Dad too much to watch from the sidelines," Barbara Bush said. If you are interested, here is the full text of their speech.
Jenna and Barbara's 'speech' was a series of one-liners. Cheap jokes were used to amp up the audience to hear the First Lady. They seemed fairly relaxed, but let out a few nervous giggles during their speech. My laptop only records in sixty second chunks, so, here are some audio clips for you to hear:
Jenna's and Barbara's first minute
Jenna's and Barbara's last minute
George's reference to the twins
Laura's reference to the twins
Update: They spoke again, this time addressing the young republicans.
The jumbo screen is eerie and sinister (especially with a jumbo sized Dick head):
Here the twins and their mother do a sound check earlier in the day
The propaganda spouting on the news channel is non-intellectual. Democracy is hard. It requires hours of not very interesting speeches written by hacks. The Republicans turned to Hollywood and fed the crowd mush that they easily digested. Arnold Schwarzenegger spoke about how, as a child, he feared the Soviets while growing up in occupied Austria. He feared that the Soviets would pull his father or uncles out of the family care and send them to Siberia and imprison them. Hmmm... that sounds a lot like the USA occupation in IRAQ and how the locals over there fear being locked up in US prisons without a trial or any rights.
